$9,000 Awarded by Community Foundation

Grants Announced

More than $9,000 in grants was awarded to seven Island organizations and one county program by the Mackinac Island Community Foundation Tuesday, May 26. The grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations and are given out twice a year in the spring and winter. Grants are determined by the foundation's income from its endowments.

The Mackinac Island Medical Center will receive $3,000 to purchase a new datascope for use in the emergency room.

Mackinac Island Recreational Development, Inc. (MIRD) was granted $3,000 for facilities improvement at Great Turtle Park.

The City of Mackinac Island Recreation Department was granted $1,500 for its "A Day in the Park" program.

A total of $1,000 will be given to Mackinac State Historic Parks to assist with landscaping work as part of the 100th anniversary restoration of the Father Marquette statue in the Father Marquette Memorial Park.

The City of Mackinac Island will add more benches in town with an $800 grant.

The LMAS District Health Department, which includes Luce, Mackinac, Alger, and Schoolcraft counties, will receive $500 for its Women, Infants, Children program on Mackinac Island. The nutrition and food service program assists low-income women who have children five years old and younger.
