The first Spring Classic Hockey Tournament, organized by Mackinac Island resident Jamie Bynoe Tuesday, June 9, was a hit. With the number of players changing as people grabbed a stick and joined the game, the rules of hockey were temporarily loosened. This game was just for fun.

Island and St. Ignace residents set up a makeshift hockey rink on Market Street by Astor Street. Two hockey nets, some sticks, a ball, and a couple of brooms for the goalies were all that was needed.

They divided into two teams, home and visitor, although who was on which team was not always clear, even to the players. In the end, the home team won, 10- 9.
