Slow Pace Characterizes Busy Island Traffic

The Island's version of a traffic jam comes at a slow, organized pace not seen in many cities. Dray and taxi drivers allow consideration as they guide horses at the intersection of Astor and Market streets Monday afternoon, August 3. Two drays patiently wait as horses, pulling a taxi, execute a turn onto Market Street. Two more carriages can be seen behind the drays, heading to the intersection as bicyclists keep pace and visitors fill sidewalks, spilling out into the roadway.
