      Monday, evening, August 10, the sunset was absolutely beautiful with various shades of red illuminating the sky behind Grand Hotel. It was a breathtaking sight with reflections off the calm Straits of Mackinac. People lined the boardwalk as the sun descended behind the Mackinac Bridge. The weather finally feels like summer, with warm, sunny days and comfortable evenings.

      Sunrise is starting to arrive later in August, but up at the Big Barns, getting the taxis ready for the morning transportation stays the same. By 6 a.m. the barn crew is in hookup and hitch-up frame of mind. It is routine seven days a week. The other morning, I was able to understand it all the more when I went myself to see what it’s like to be on the early bird taxi roster.
