To the Editor: I have visited, lived on, and worked on Mackinac Island since 1965, about 45 years. No one loves Mackinac Island more than I. I even lived in the LaSalle in the 1960s, which was destroyed by a horrible fire in the 1980s. I go way back. I love many of the Island people, with a special love for American Indians [and] Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. More ... To the Editor: Recently an article in The St. Ignace News 50 years ago back in time, noted that John R. Gough, mayor incumbent, and Robert Hughey, whose council term will expire, will run for mayor. More ... To the Editor: We were the lucky ones. We stayed at McNally Cottage for 20 years when we visited Mackinac Island, usually one week at Lilac Festival and one week at the Jazz Festival. We slept in all eight of the guest rooms, but preferred #2 and #3, the upstairs, front rooms where you could enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the street activity. More ... |
