Lakers Track Team Takes Huge Strides, Set Records

The Mackinac Island Lakers track team continues to take huge strides during the 2010 season. Coach Leonard Thomas leads a squad made up of Hailey Bean, Morgan Brodeur-Bunker, Jane Finkel, Taylor Hopkins, Halee Tokarz, Hailey Armstrong, Zhan’e Nash, Shelbie Mosley, Collin Armstrong, and Paul Wandrie.

New Low Hurdle Mark

Halee Tokarz improved her school record time in the 300 low hurdles with a time of 57.66 at the Web Morrison Invitational in Pickford Saturday, May 1. The eighth-grade hurdler eclipsed her previous mark of 59.22 established earlier in the season.

Zhan’e Nash continues to place in each meet during the 100, 200, and 400 meter dash events, and placed third in the three races during the Frank Formolo Memorial Invitational in Engadine Tuesday, May 4. She placed fourth in the strong 400 dash, and the Lakers 400 meter relay team of Hailey Armstrong, Halee Tokarz, Morgan Brodeur-Bunker, and Zhan’e Nash placed fifth during the strong St. Ignace Kiwanis Track and Field Invitational Monday, May 10.
