Barnwell, Wightman Seated for City; Bloswick for School

Sam Barnwell and incumbent Dan Wightman won seats on the Mackinac Island City Council Tuesday, May 4, getting the highest votes among three candidates for the two available seats.

Mr. Wightman received 232 votes, Mr. Barnwell received 170, and incumbent Armand “Smi” Horn received 148.

Jennifer Bloswick captured 179 votes to take a seat on the board of education, nudging out Jack Armstrong, who received 146 votes.

Of the Island's 677 registered voters, 326 residents cast ballots, a 47.4% turnout, compared to 42.6% in 2009.

In other city elections, candidates ran unopposed and tallied the following votes: Mayor Margaret Doud, 240; Clerk Karen Lennard, 265; Treasurer Rick Linn, 278; Supervisor Ron Dufina, 197; Assessor Bob Benser, 229.
