NEWS ABOUT PEOPLE ON MACKINAC ISLAND

BY JEANNETTE DOUD

The most beautiful day of the spring season was Tuesday, May 18, as temperatures were in the high 70s with radiant sunshine, blue skies, and calm winds. Many visitors were enjoying the perfect weather for bike riding, a ride in the surrey with the fringe on top, or a walk in the woods filled with wildflowers. Alice and Albert “Buck” Sharrow invited me and my friend, Ann Taylor, from Delta, Ohio, to go for a carriage ride. It was absolutely magnificent, with the scent of lilies of the valley permeating the air, and trilliums and blue forget-me-nots covering the woods. The view from Fort Holmes, the highest point on the Island, was breathtaking looking out over the Straits of Mackinac. It truly was a wonderful ride.
