NEWS ABOUT PEOPLE ON MACKINAC ISLAND

BY JEANNETTE DOUD

The weather has been picture perfect with bright sunny days, blue skies, and light wind. People are enjoying biking, riding in a surrey with the fringe on top, or hiking in the woods. At the Little Jewel golf course, you can see mama duck teaching her little ones to swim in the pond and a beautiful heron watching everyone walk by. Mother Nature is amazing.

I had the pleasure of taking a carriage ride with Buck Sharrow, who is employed by Mike and Wendy Young, with his great horses. Traveling to Fort Holmes and looking out over the Straits of Mackinac is absolutely breathtaking. The woods are so green and peaceful. The flowers in yards by the cottages are outstanding and so colorful. In the evening, people thoroughly enjoy walking down the boardwalk looking toward the Mackinac Bridge as the sun sets in the west. It’s a great time to visit Mackinac.

The Bayview Yacht Race will begin Saturday, July 17. We wish all the sailors a good and safe sail with fair winds.
