William ‘Matt’ Bazinau

William “Matt” Bazinau, 42, of Mackinac Island was a well known horseman on Mackinac Island all of his life, working for Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, Mission Point Resort, and the State Park, and for many years for Cindy’s Riding Stable. He was also a trail guide for many years on Mackinac Island. Mr. Bazinau died Monday afternoon, January 10, 2011, at his home, following a long bout of cancer.

He was born on Mackinac Island March 24, 1968, to William “Randy” Bazinau and Faye Lorraine Cowell Bazinau. He was graduated from Mackinac Island Public Schools in 1986.

Mr. Bazinau loved his dogs, as well as horses, snowmobiles, and hunting and fishing. He had many good friends on Mackinac Island and he was most proud of helping to raise two girls, Mackenzie and Hailey Bean. He was grateful to Kittie and Cub Horn and Gwen Bagbey for their help while he and his siblings were growing up and his father was a single parent. He always said it takes a village to raise children.

Marie; a daughter, Crysta Cowell of St. Ignace; a son, Jason Robinson of Grand Rapids; his mother, Faye Queen, of Georgia; his grandparents, Robert “Porky” and Caroline LaPine of Mackinac Island and George and Edna Cowell of Trenton; many aunts and uncles, and a close friend, Lee Hake. All of his nephews and cousins called him “Uncle Matt.” He was preceded in death by his father, Randy Bazinau, who died in an accident on the ice of Lake Huron.
