Local Musicians Set To Fill Ste. Anne’s Church With Music Sunday Afternoons

Dulcet tones from Mackinac Island musicians will flow throughout Ste. Anne’s Church on many Sunday afternoons this summer as the Mackinac Island Community Foundation’s annual summer concert series gets into full swing.

The series will feature music from an eclectic group of performers, said Robin Dorman, executive director of the community foundation. All concerts are free and open to the public, but goodwill donations to the foundation’s music fund will be accepted.

This year’s schedule includes performances from pianist John Kissane with singing accompaniment from Mr. Dorman June 26, classical guitarist Roger Humphrey July 10, flutist Heather May accompanied by pianist Peggy Bynoe July 31, and George Blair, who plans to entertain attendees with a song and story interpretation of the history of Mackinac Island, August 14. All concerts are at 2 p.m.

A primary focus of the concert series is to highlight Mackinac Island talent, Mr. Dorman said.

“We’re always looking for more Island visitors and Island workers to provide the music,” he said.

Mr. Dorman hopes to see many people enjoy the benefits of the summer concert series this year.

“It’s our opportunity to provide different types of music to Island residents, workers, and visitors,” he said. “People can hear the music of some good community talent. They can just sit back, relax, and enjoy those talents.”
