Governor Attends Transfer of Museum Ship

State officials visited Mackinaw City Saturday, August 13, for the transfer of ownership of the decommissioned Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw to the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum. State Representative Greg MacMaster (from left), State Senator Howard Walker, Captain Joseph McGuiness, Bill Shepler, and Governor Rick Snyder were present. Each shared their thoughts about how turning the ship into a museum helped commemorate the tenacity and determination of Michigan people. During the weekend, Gov. Snyder visited Mackinac Island and then traveled to several locations in the Upper Peninsula to meet with citizens, beginning with a business roundtable meeting in St. Ignace Monday morning, August 15.
