Soccer Opener Is a Sweep for Lakers; Volleyball 4-8 at Tournament

Austin Ruddle Austin Ruddle The Mackinac Island Lakers co-ed soccer team opened the 2011 season with a sweep of Concord Academy of Boyne City, 7-0 and 10-0, Friday, August 26, and Saturday, August 27.

On Saturday the Lakers used a balanced attack as nine players spearheaded the offense.

Joe Rogers, Colton Fisher, and Austin Ruddle shared time in goal during Mackinac Island’s two wins.

The Lakers will host the Paradise Rockets Friday, Sep- tember 9, at 5 p.m. and Saturday, September 10, at 10:30 a.m.

The Mackinac Island Lakers volleyball team opened the season with a 4-8 overall record during the Wolverine Invitational Saturday, August 27.

The Lakers defeated Alba, 25-20 and 25-23, split with Maplewood Baptist, 25-23 and 24-26, and Wolverine, 25-21 and 23-25, and lost to Harbor Light Christian, 20-25 and 14- 25, NMCA, 11-25 and 15-25, and Ellsworth, 13-25 and 21- 25.

The Lakers return to action with a road match against the Pickford Panthers Thursday, September 8.
