Sad To See McNally Cottage Taken Down
To the Editor:
My wife, Janis, and I, as well as our family, have been regular visitors to Mackinac Island for nearly 50 years, enjoying and appreciating the wonderful history of the Island.
We are very sad to see that the historic McNally Cottage on Main Street is destroyed.
It is simply beyond our understanding that the officials of Mackinac Island would allow this, and other, beautiful historic buildings, to be destroyed, taking away the history of this beautiful Island and replacing this amazing memory with more hotels and fudge shops.
This is a complete disgrace.
This history is gone forever, thanks to the shortsightedness of those responsible.
Janis and I, and many others, regret this unfortunate destruction of the history of Mackinac Island, not only for ourselves, but for our children, and their children.
As a family, we stayed regularly at the McNally Cottage for more than 40 years.
We are deeply saddened by this outrageous and mindless destruction even as Mackinac Island continues to promote itself as a place to experience an earlier time in our history.
