This Is What I Meant

To the Editor:

Well, my letter, as printed in the June 9 issue of the Town Crier, worked as intended.

I began coming to the Island as a young boy in 1949. In total, I have spent four years of my life on Mackinac (See Mackinac Island Town Crier Archive Section for June 6, 2009). I truly love the Island and visit every year in spring or summer. I am not a “Main Streeter.”

Obviously, my problem is not with the past, but with the present. Not with what it was, but what it has become. The charm that used to be a 10 is nowa3or4atbest.Ifearthe Island has seen its best days and that makes me, my wife (whom I met on Mackinac 52 years ago), and my entire family truly sad.
