Annual Horse Show Is Sunday
The 42nd annual Mackinac Island Horse Show will be Sunday, August 5, at the Mackinac Community Equestrian Center, hosted by the Mackinac Horsemen’s Association. The show starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
The show is open to the public, and consists of competitions on showmanship and grooming, leadline, costume contests, bareback, English and western competitions, a walktrot competition, and obstacle events. The show will also feature a trails class, the Mary Milton Challenge with jumping course, the Hope Goodwin Memorial Hunter Hack event where riders showing a walk, trot, or cantor followed by three jumps, and the Rusty Memorial Cup, for riders 16 and older. For younger riders, a Simon Says competition will be held for ages five to 11.
“The show is for anyone who rides or is taking lessons on the Island,” said Kate Koroleski.
Costs to enter classes are $10 for riders 16 years old and older, and $5 for riders younger than 16, per class. A late fee of $5 a class will be required for those who register on the day of entry.
