Guns and Hoses Game Is Sunday
The August 11 edition of the Mackinac Town Crier incorrectly states the date of the event is Saturday. The following announcement has the corrected date.
The Mackinac Island Fire Department and Police Department will compete in the 11th annual Guns and Hoses softball game Sunday, August 12, at Great Turtle Park at 6 p.m.
All proceeds will benefit the Mark Gallagher Scholarship Fund, a scholarship for Mackinac Island Public School graduates seeking higher education for careers in law enforcement or criminal justice. Mark Gallagher was a young Island resident and graduate of Mackinac Island Public School who had dreamed about serving his community as a police officer before passing away in 2001 of cancer.
The first Guns and Hoses softball game was held in 2002 and the event has raised more than $14,000 toward the Mark Gallagher Scholarship Fund to date.
Last year more than $2,300 was raised for the scholarship fund through raffles and a silent auction.
The game is free and open to the public. There will be concessions, a silent auction, and a raffle drawing.
