Changes Are Not For the Good of Island

To the Editor:

I just received my December issue of the Town Crier.

As a former property owner, a worker for many summers, and now a repeat visitor, I support and push for the two historic districts. They are a must if you want to keep Mackinac Island charm. Over the last couple of years, I have seen a change in downtown Mackinac Island and it is not for the better.

I just read that [developers] want to put another hotel at Arnold Line. Wow, what a mistake that would be! Just how many hotel rooms are needed on Mackinac Island?

Are all of the rooms rented every night during the summer? I think not. The proposed changes to the Island are not for the good of the Island.

Please, is there any one out there who has power that can stop this takeover before it’s too late?

I have been in the tourism business for over 40 years. I am not against change, but I am not happy to see the changes that are happening on Mackinac Island.

Mackinac Island is one of the most unique tourist places I have ever been to. So please stop the unhealthy growth and make the changes that best help the Island.

Mackinac Island needs quality shops that offer unique and tasteful products.

Please save our Island!
