Wendy Caulkins


Wendy Caulkins Wendy Caulkins Wendy L. Caulkins, 71, of Cheboygan, died Sunday, December 30, 2012, at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey.

She was born March 31, 1941, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to Rex and Barbara (nee Caulkins) Lamb, Jr. She grew up in Mt. Vernon before attending the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where she earned her bachelor’s degree.

She married Henry “Mick” Caulkins, Jr., in Grosse Pointe Farms June 7, 1963.

Mrs. Caulkins was a founding member of the Cheboygan Arts Council and a driving member of the committee that restored the Opera House. She served on various arts council boards and committees and was active until the day she died. She also served multiple terms on the board of Mackinac Associates, the friends group for the Mackinac State Historic Parks, and was an enthusiastic supporter of their outreach programs in schools throughout the state. Mrs. Caulkins was also an avid skier, skater, walker, and swimmer. She was a voracious reader and also loved to cook, which family members said she did considerably better than most.

Surviving are her husband, Mick, of Cheboygan; two children and thir families, Lee and Kevin Keller of Marietta, Georgia, and Hank and Margaret Allen of Rockford; five grandchildren, Courtney, Kaitlyn, Emma, and Henry IV, of Rockford, and Sarah of Marietta.

No services are planned at this time. The family suggests memorials to benefit the Cheboygan Area Arts Council, P.O. Box 95, Cheboygan, MI 49721, Mackinac Associates, P.O. Box 567, Mackinaw City, MI 49701, or the local charity of one’s choice.

The Nordman-Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan assisted the family with arrangements.
