Mackinac Island Public School senior Zhan’e Nash scored her 1,000th career point during the Lakers 43-23 non-conference win over the Alanson Vikings Saturday, January 12.

Nash needed 11 points for the record and scored her milestone point at 4:13 of the third quarter on a free throw. She posted 12 points, 17 rebounds, and five steals in the contest against the Vikings.

“I am extremely happy for Zhan’e and her career mark,” said Lakers coach Mary Patay. “She is a very unselfish player and deserves the recognition.”

The Lakers and Vikings were both sluggish before Halee Tokarz drained a triple at the firstperiod buzzer to give Mackinac Island a 7-4 lead that they would never relinquish.

Mackinac Island, 8-3 on the season, extended its lead to 20-10 at halftime with a 13-6 margin in the second quarter and outscored Alanson 23- 13 in the second half to post the win.

Alanson, with seven players on their roster, had four girls foul out in the fourth quarter and had to finish the game with three girls. Coach Patay of Mackinac Island didn’t have to pull two of her players, but she did, creating a three-onthree game for the remainder of the period.

Lakers remaining statistics: Hailey Armstrong, 11 points, six rebounds, five steals; Mackenzie Bean, six points; Peyton Waaso, five points; Molly Tokarz, four points, eight rebounds; Halee Tokarz, three points; Amelia Roe, two points; Dana Roguska, four rebounds.
