Margaret Tamlyn


Margaret Tamlyn Margaret Tamlyn Margaret Anna Tamlyn, 77, of St. Ignace, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, April 24, 2013, surrounded by her family after a three-year illness of cancer.

She was born to Bernard and Jennie (nee Iverson) Fenlon September 10, 1935, in Hessel.

She was graduated from Cedarville High School in 1953.

She married Norman “Chickie” Tamlyn November 28, 1953, and they celebrated nearly 37 years together.

She worked for Wardy and Ray Sliva at the Ben Franklin store for 20 years; The Deer Ranch for Harold and Sally Kriesche for five years, and managed Monkey Business on Mackinac Island for Dennis Sliva for the past 15 years.

She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society.

Mrs. Tamlyn enjoyed traveling. She often traveled with her sister, Evelyn. Together they visited many places, including Ireland and Hawaii.

While working, she always looked forward to visiting with customers and one of her saddest days, her family said, was when she was unable to continue working because of her illness.

Mrs. Tamlyn loved baking for her children and grandchildren, and friends. There was never a shortage of desserts on the kitchen counter.

She is survived by her children and their families, Norm and Mary Tamlyn of Petoskey, Don and Kathleen Tamlyn, Jake Tamlyn, and Sandy and Brian Snyder, all of St. Ignace, Susan Wells of Fowlerville, Steve Tamlyn and Jo Gareau of Che- boygan; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Meehan of St. Ignace and Florida; a sister in law, June Fenlon of Texas; many nieces and nephews, and her cat, Snips.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Catherine Fenlon and Ruth Leach; a brother, Edward Fenlon; two brothers-inlaw, Harry Meehan and John Leach; a grandson, Seth Tamlyn; a grandson-in-law, John Paul Brown, and two nephews, Joe Leach and Jesse Leach.

Visitation was Friday, April 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dodson Funeral Home. Parish prayers were at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church with Father Pawel Mecwel officiating. A luncheon was served following the Mass.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Lauren Brown, Landon Snyder, Sarah and Nathan Tamlyn, Tonya Wells, and Jennifer Hoolsema.

Interment will be in Gros Cap Cemetery later in the spring.

Memorials may be directed to St. Anne’s Altar Society or Mackinac Straits Health System, Oncology Department, with envelopes available from Dodson Funeral Home.
