Schultz to Lead Poetry Reading

Poet and Michigan native Elizabeth Schultz will visit Mackinac Island’s Little Stone Church to lead a poetry reading at 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 6.

The program is sponsored by the Mackinac Island Community Foundation’s Lorabeth Fitzgerald fund and is open to the public.

She has taught and lectured in Poland, Russia, Japan, and China. Each summer Ms. Schultz would return to her cot- tage on Higgins Lake. In 2001, she wrote “Shoreline: Seasons at the Lake,” an account of her memories of her summer community.

Some of Ms. Schultz’s writing is influenced by her father’s profession as a Great Lakes sailor and learning to sail at an early age from her mother. She has written and taught about Herman Melville.

Her two published poetry collections are “Conversations” and “Her Voice.” Collections slated for 2014 publication are “Moby-Dick,” “Charles W. Morgan,” and “Mrs. Noah Takes the Helm.”
