Plan Approved for Mackinac Island Bike Shop

City Council approved a site plan Mackinac Island Bike Shop on Main Street, including new bike racks, removable fencing, and awnings attached to the Shepler’s Dock. The city’s street committee reviewed the plan Wednesday, June 11, during which owner Ira Green said no city sidewalks will be torn up during construction.

A cement slab beneath a rental kiosk must be poured and a green covering will be laid over a gravel area. Work will be completed in stages outside of peak business hours and should be finished in about three days, Mr. Green said.

In approving the bike shop site plan on Lot 138, the city council reiterated that the 125 bicycle rental licenses associated with the lot are kept separate from 194 licenses associated with Lots 137 A and B next door, also owned by Mr. Green. The city allows the licenses to be used jointly through Mr. Green’s Mackinac Island Bike Shop only because the lots are adjacent.

The HDC also approved the new rental plan on Lot 138 Tuesday, June 10.
