By Jeannette Doud

Tuesday, August 26, family and friends gathered at Ste. Anne’s Church for the service for Dan Seeley. Reverend Ron Smith, Reverend Trish Martin, Deacon Kitty Hannabass, and Lew Crusoe officiated at the service. Many of Dan’s favorite hymns were played on the organ and Gordon Roberts played the piano. Trish eulogized Dan as a big man with a big heart, who touched many lives on Mackinac Island. Father Jim Williams spoke about Dan’s compassion for people and his involvement in the community. Dan loved Mackinac, where he taught school for more than 25 years. He was an EMT, a dedicated member of the Mackinac Island Fire Department, and the organist at Trinity Episcopal Church. He loved the history of the Island, and he would give tours during Lilac Festival time. He was the chef at many community dinners.

Pallbearers were his former students Jamie Bynoe, Eric St. Onge, Jason St. Onge, Brian Bloswick, Josh Carley, Craig Bunker, and his two nephews, Ryan Seeley and Travis Peck.

Dan was laid to rest in the Mackinac Island Cemetery on a beautiful Mackinac Island day with the sun shining, birds singing, and the trees starting to change colors as bagpipes bid him farewell.

A luncheon followed at the Community Hall.

May Dan always rest in peace on the shores of Mackinac Island.
