Effie ‘Gail’ Johnson


Effie Johnson Effie Johnson Effie “Gail” Johnson, 79, of Llano, Texas, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016, from injuries sustained in a bicycling accident while vacationing with friends on Mackinac Island.

She was born in Llano February 10, 1937 to Thomas and Jewel Gregory and was graduated from Llano High School. She met and married Don Ross “Dugan” Johnson in 1955 while attending Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, and following graduation, they reared a family in Mason, Plainview, Hereford, Alpine, and Uvalde before returning to Llano in 2003.

Mrs. Johnson taught elementary school.

Her family remembers her ever-present smile, quick laugh, enthusiasm for life, and eagerness to participate in new adventures. She was a member of Lutie Watkins Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and participated in mission and volunteer activities. She was a Master Gardener, an active bridge player, and community volunteer. Her favorite activity was travel throughout the world with family and friends.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Tom, and a granddaughter, Shawna Johnson.

She is survived by a sister, Frankie Jean O’Rorke; her daughter, Eva Doran; a son and family, Donny and Teri Johnson; six grandchildren and families, Shannon and Chris Lindsey, Shea Johnson, Skye and Kyle Crane, Kailee and Travis McCall, Andy Doran, and Darby Doran; two great-grandchildren.

Services were at Lutie Watkins Memorial Methodist Church Sunday, June 12. Burial was at Oxford Cemetery.

Charitable memorials can be made to the Llano County Master Gardeners, Llano Women’s Culture Club Scholarship Fund, or Lutie Watkins Memorial Methodist Church Costa Rica Missions Program.
