Barbara Trainor-Hoyt


Barbara Trainor-Hoyt Barbara Trainor-Hoyt Barbara Jean Trainor-Hoyt, 66, of St. Ignace, worked for a few summers at Fort Mackinac at Mackinac Island, and also worked at Glen’s Markets in St. Ignace, and in managerial positions in local restaurants. Mrs. Trainor-Hoyt died Saturday, March 25, 2017, at her home in St. Ignace.

She was born July 31, 1950, to Gordon Lloyd and Mary Bernadette (nee Oremus) Trainor in Petoskey.

She grew up in St. Ignace. She was graduated from LaSalle High School in 1968, and she attended Ferris State College. She married Bruce Sweeney, and they had three children.

She married Martin “Bill” Hoyt February 25, 1989, in St. Ignace.

Mrs. Trainor-Hoyt was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace. She served as a leader of the Girl Scouts and Brownies. She was a past member of the St. Ignace bowling league and also Moose Lodge 999.

She loved her flower gardens, and even when she couldn’t tend to them, she had her husband, Bill, tend to them for her. Mrs. Trainor-Hoyt liked to go bowling, take road trips with her children, and go fishing with her husband.

She is survived by her children and their families, Brenda Sweeney and Ken Belonga of St. Ignace, Michelle Hoyt of Lansing, Beth Harrison of St. Ignace, Marty Hoyt of San Francisco, California, and Brian and Zuki Sweeney of Cheboygan; grandchildren, Brandi St. Andrew and Rollie Durance, Hailey St. Andrew, Jacobb St. Andrew, Michael Barkley and Angela Nowak, Jaleel Harrison, Trevon Harrison, Bryanna Sweeney, and Kemper Sweeney, and greatgrandchildren, Hunter, Kaylee, Jazzlyn, Korvin, and Dominik. She is also survived by a sister and her family, Lyn and Bob Michels of L’Anse, and two brothers and their families, Ronald Trainor of Boston, Massachusetts, and Christopher and Marcia Rae Trainor of Holland, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bruce Sweeney, and her second husband, Bill Hoyt.

Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, March 31, at 2 p.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in St. Ignace with Father Frank Ricca officiating. Visitation was from 11 a.m. to time of the service at the church.

Burial will be in St. Ignatius Loyola Cemetery in St. Ignace.

R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford is assisting the family with arrangements.
