Grand Garden Show Begins This Sunday

Garden tours, seminars and talks by celebrity gardeners P. Allen Smith and Laura LeBoutilliere will be features of the fifth annual Grand Garden Show this Sunday, August 27, through Tuesday, August 29, at Grand Hotel.

The garden show is led by Jack Barnwell, owner of Mackinac Island-based Barnwell Landscape and Garden Services. Mr. Barnwell is a garden designer, author, and owner of C3 Gardens in southwest Florida. It offers demonstrations and presentations by garden experts.

The late-summer event, which draws nursery owners, landscapers, and home gardeners, is open to people who wish to sign up for a single day or a two-day package on Monday and Tuesday. The cost is $125 for a day ticket on Monday, $100 for Tuesday, and $175 for the two-day package.

Mr. Smith, the featured speaker on Tuesday and special guest at a cocktail reception Monday evening, is a TV host, garden designer, and food and lifestyle expert from Little Rock, Arkansas. He also owns Moss Mountain Farm on the Arkansas River, which is featured in his presentations.

He hosts three TV shows, “P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home,” “P. Allen Smith’s Garden to the Table,” and “Garden Style.” A fourth-generation nurseryman and horticulturist, Mr. Smith also has authored a series of books on gardening and cooking. He’s a regular contributor to the “Today” show.

Ms. LeBoutilliere, who grew up in a family business, Andrews Seed Company of Ontario, Oregon, is host of a You Tube vlog called “Garden Answer” that has 87,000 subscribers and millions of viewers.

Other guests leading seminars and tours are Tim Wood, new product development manager for Grand Havenbased Spring Meadow Nursery; Valerie Rollins, regional sales representative for Carleton based Four Star Greenhouse; John Gaydos, who’s in charge of product development and promotion for the plant company Proven Winners; and Marshall Dirks, Proven Winners marketing and public relations director.

Proven Winners, whose home office is in Sycamore, Illinois, is a company formed in 1992 by the partnership of Carleton’s Four Star Greenhouse and Pleasant View Gardens of Loudon, New Hampshire. Spring Meadow Nursery is one of its affiliates.
