Mona Carley

Mona Carley Mona Carley Mona Lea Carley of Sault Ste. Marie passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault. Ste. Marie. She was 79.

She was born June 19, 1938, to Lawrence and Marie (nee Guilmette) Forrest in Sault Ste. Marie, and married Wayne Carley February 11, 1956, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church there.

Mrs. Carley was a certified nursing assistant and was employed for 10 years in the longterm care unit of War Memorial Hospital. She later was employed for more than 20 years as the head cook for Mackinac Island Carriage Tours on Mackinac Island.

She enjoyed feeding the birds, watching the Golf Channel, cooking, reading, and working puzzles. She was always watching over her children. She also enjoyed babysitting Chloey the dog and Annabelle the cat.

Mrs. Carley is survived by three sons and their families, Dan and Melinda Carley of Ithaca, Jim and Barbara Carley of Dafter and Alaska, and Mike and Debora Carley of Mackinac Island; a daughter and her family, Deb and Chris Carroll of Barbeau; 10 grandchildren, Allison, Keith, Andrea, Keith, Robert, Josh, Ian, Carley, Clarissa, and Terry; four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by three brothers and their families, Larry and Linda Forrest of Sault Ste. Marie, Glenn and Judy Forrest of Livonia, and David and Marion Forrest of Sault Ste. Marie; two sisters, LaVerne Forrest of Traverse City and Jean McCarty of Niles, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carley was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, who died in 1996.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, November 21, at noon at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home in Sault Ste. Marie. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to time of the service.
