Winter Festival Is Feb. 3 - 4

The two-day Mackinac Island Winter Festival, starting with a bonfire at noon Saturday, February 3, at Great Turtle Park, will start with snow golf, snow bowling, an egg hunt, broom hockey, snowshoe and ski events, ice fishing and sledding, a snowmobile obstacle course, and an organized game of tug of war.

On the evening of February 3, Mackinac State Park will host a Twilight Turtle Trek. Partici- pants meet at Greaney Grove to snowshoe, ski, or hike lanternlighted trails in the park.

The following morning, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a brunch will be available at the school. After that, entries for the Seasons of Mackinac Calendar photography contest will be available for viewing and voting at the Mackinac Island Public School library.

On Sunday afternoon, there will be a silent auction and bake sale at the school and bouncy horses for children in the gymnasium. There’s also a snowmobile poker run on Sunday.

Families can enjoy children’s crafts, an archery contest, and a foil game at the school, also on Sunday. The foil game is a way to win prizes by purchasing pieces of cardboard wrapped in foil. Organizers made 2,000 pieces available for purchase last winter.

Bingo and a raffle drawing are also planned for Sunday.

Great Turtle Park is just off of Third Street in Mackinac Island State Park. Mackinac Island Public School is at 7846 Main Street. All events are free and open to all.
