Grand Hotel Named Best Hotel in Michigan, Voted a Top-10 Resort

By Jacob A. Ball

Grand Hotel has been named the Best Hotel in Michigan for the second consecutive year by U.S. News and World Report and has received a Four Diamond rating from AAA, the highest, for the 25th consecutive year. In addition, wedding web site The Knot has inducted Grand Hotel into its hall of fame based on reviews by couples and their guests. The hotel received many other awards this year, including Best Historic Resort by USA Today and the Most Beautiful Hotel in Michigan by Architectural Digest. The hotel was also voted a top 10 all-inclusive family resort by USA Today and the web site Family Vacation Critic. Condé Nast Traveler readers selected Grand Hotel as one of the best Midwest destinations for the fifth time.

Dan Musser III, president and owner of Grand Hotel, said it is the hotel’s mission to provide a memorable and authentic experience to each of its guests from around the world.

The U.S. News and World Report criteria for Michigan’s best hotel includes TripAdvisor guest reviews, hotel-class rating, reviews from travel critics, and awards and recognitions received by the hotel. The research determined that Grand Hotel is most commonly classified as a fourstar hotel and regularly receives glowing reviews from guests and critics.

The review also makes note of Grand Hotel’s experience with weddings, professional conventions, and variety of children’s programming offered.

“We are delighted to top the list of the best hotels in the beautiful state of Michigan,” Mr. Musser said. “It is an incredible honor to receive this national recognition.”

AAA’s Four Diamond rating has been awarded to the hotel for 25 years. Only 6.1%, or 1,676 hotels, out of 27,000 AAA inspected and approved hotels receive this designation. Mr. Musser said this designation recognizes the hard work and dedication of the staff. The designation signifies a high degree of hospitality that includes attentive service, luxurious lodging, and a variety of amenities and guest services.

Said Michael Petrone, AAA director of Inspections and Diamond Ratings: “These establishments dedicate a significant amount of attention to the little extras that help to ensure a consistent and memorable guest experience. To uphold the exceptionally high standards required on a daily basis to attain this rating is an outstanding achievement.”

The induction of Grand Hotel into The Knot Best of Weddings Hall of Fame comes after the hotel received the Web site’s Best of Weddings award four times. This list is an annual publication of the highest-rated wedding destinations as chosen by couples and their guests. Only 3% of wedding professionals listed on the site receive the Best of Weddings designation.

Grand Hotel has been serving as a wedding venue since the 19th century and can accommodate ceremonies and receptions from small, intimate gathering to celebrations with hundreds of people. Mr. Musser said it is an honor to welcome guests to celebrate their wedding day at Grand Hotel.

“As a third-generation familyowned hotel, we are passionate about tradition and family, which are particularly important when it comes to celebrating major life events, such as a wedding,” Mr. Musser said.
