St. Ignace Job Fair Is April 11

The St. Ignace Job Fair will be Wednesday, April 11, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Little Bear East Arena. It is free for employers and job seekers.

The fair drew 130 job seekers last year. The fair will feature a wide variety of job opportunities, including seasonal positions at restaurants, hotels, and retail shops, as well as year around opportunities in areas such as skilled trades and management. The fair also features representatives from the military, state parks, and universities.

New this year will be a resume clinic for job seekers, offered by the Mackinac Economic Alliance.

Jim Clapperton of Michigan Works Upward, one of the fair’s organizers, urges every job seeker to attend the fair, and encourages employers to participate and connect with potential employees. Some businesses hold their own hiring events in the winter and early spring, but Mr. Clapperton still encourages them to take part in the fair.

“I truly hope everyone who held their own hiring fair was successful, but I know from experience that you can lose people to other businesses if you hire too early before you open,” he said. “The job fair is a great way to connect with many great potential employees.”

Businesses that would like to reserve a table can call the Chamber of Commerce at (906) 643-8717, or Michigan Works at (906) 643-8158. Job seekers that have questions or want help with preparing a resume can contact Michigan Works or walk in at any time during open hours. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Michigan Works is at 6 Spring Street, Suite 102, in St. Ignace, and Little Bear East is at 275 Marquette Street.
