Volunteers Needed for Earth Day Cleanup April 28

The Mackinac Island Recreation Department is organizing an annual spring cleanup on Earth Day, Saturday, April 28. Volunteers are needed to scour the Island for trash and fallen brush. Some volunteers will be asked to organize into groups to help clean up the streets throughout the Island.

No registration is necessary, and the effort will continue throughout the day. Garbage bags and maps will be available from Mackinac Island State Park. Once a garbage bag is filled, volunteers may mark the location on their map. State park staff will retrieve all of the bags for disposal.

Students will be responsible for picking up trash around the school grounds, including Woodfill Park. Their cleanup will be Friday, April 27, around the end of the school day.

In appreciation, the Recreation Department is hosting a community cookout at Great Turtle Park Sunday, April 29, with the time to be determined. There will be games and activities for children, and all are welcome to attend.
