YAC To Host Spring Brunch Fundraiser

The Mackinac Island Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) will hold a spring brunch fundraiser Sunday, April 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Community Hall. Cost is $12, and tickets are available at the door or from a YAC member before the event.

The event will feature traditional brunch fare cooked by Island House Chef Phil Kromer and his crew. The YAC members will be on hand to serve the guests, which gives them firsthand experience working to raise money for the Youth Fund, said Stephanie Mc- Greevy, community foundation executive director.

Having students involved in the community foundation teaches them philanthropy, Mrs. McGreevy said, as they review grant applications and pick winning projects. In recent years, the YAC has contributed to new lighting for the soccer fields at Great Turtle Park, purchased mats for a tumbling program at the school, and supported the recreation department’s summertime youth activities and camps.

“It’s very much geared toward youth giving back to youth,” Mrs. McGreevy said.

Serving as YAC advisors this year are Lisa Dziobak and Allison Sehoyan.

The spring brunch is sponsored by Grand Hotel, Island House Hotel, and Gordon Food Service.
