Tamyra Beard

Tamyra Beard Tamyra Beard Tamyra Anne Beard, 58, of Pickford, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at Pennington Home in Pickford, with her family at her side.

She was born February 16, 1960, to Robert and Marsha Anne Wessel in Anderson, Indiana. At a young age, she was adopted by her stepfather, Lawrence Abel.

Mrs. Beard grew up in Florida, where she was graduated from Coral Springs High School in the Florida Keys. She was active in high school sports, especially volleyball and softball. While still in high school, she worked as first mate on her stepfather’s charter fishing boat. She was a certified scuba diver.

As a young woman, she moved to Barbeau with her stepfather. In 1987, she visited the Pickford Elevator, where she met the owner and her future husband, Randy Beard. They were married August 5, 1989, at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Sault Ste. Marie. She worked with her husband at Pickford Elevator as a supply purchaser, until they sold the business 20 years ago. More recently, she worked as a cook for Jack’s Livery Stable on Mackinac Island.

Mrs. Beard attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Barbeau.

She loved being outdoors, gardening, fishing, and camping. She also enjoyed cooking and smoking meat.

She is survived by her husband; three children, Tara Beard and Matthew Beard, both of Pickford, and Stacey Beard of Sault Ste. Marie; a granddaughter, Annalyn Arbic, and a brother, Robert Wessel of Florida.

Mrs. Beard was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Michael Abel, and her stepfather, Lawrence Abel.

A private celebration of life will be held this summer.

R. Galer Funeral Home in Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
