Nancy Hardy


Nancy Hardy Nancy Hardy A longtime English teacher at LaSalle High School in St. Ignace, Nancy C. Hardy passed away late Tuesday evening, September 25, 2018, at MediLodge in Cheboygan, following a lingering illness. She was 74.

She was born November 15, 1943, to James and Clara (nee Albrecht) Magowan in Chicago, Illinois.

Mrs. Hardy was graduated from Western Michigan University in 1965, where she earned a bachelor’s degree.

She married Kenneth Hardy May 1, 1965, at a Lutheran church in Grand Rapids. They then moved to St. Ignace, where Mr. Hardy was assigned to the Michigan State Police Post after graduating from the Michigan State Police Trooper Recruit School that year. They’ve spent their entire married life in St. Ignace.

Mrs. Hardy taught English at LaSalle High School for 33 years. She also coached basketball for one year.

She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Ignace and of the St. Ignace Public Library Book Club.

She is survived by her husband, Ken; two sons and their families, James and Jackie Hardy of Saline and Kenneth, Jr. and Vanessa Hardy of Mackinac Island; a daughter and her family, Roxanne and Clark Smith of St. Ignace, and two grandsons, Brady and Henry Hardy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Joan.

Services will be held Saturday, October 6, at noon at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Ignace with Pastor Dave Tielbar officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to time of the service at the church.

Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in St. Ignace.

Dodson Funeral Home of St. Ignace is assisting the family with arrangements.
