Twilight Turtle Trek Is January 5

Mackinac State Historic Parks, the Mackinac Island Community Foundation, and the Mackinac Island Ski Club will sponsor the Mackinac Island Twilight Turtle Trek Saturday, January 5.

Lanterns will light groomed trails throughout Mackinac Island State Park for guests to ski and snowshoe. The trail, which is approximately two miles long, begins at Greaney Grove (at the corner of Arch Rock Road and Huron Road, near Fort Mackinac) with a bonfire and hot chocolate at 5:30 p.m. The event concludes at 7:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

“This is a great way to experience the beauty and solitude of Mackinac Island in the winter,” said Mackinac State Historic Parks Director Phil Porter. “The horse trails on the Island make some of the best ski trails in northern Michigan.”

Twilight Turtle Treks are also scheduled for February 2 and March 2.
