City Buys Orr Family Interest

As it maneuvers to complete its acquisition of the Coal Dock, the Mackinac Island City Council signed a purchase agreement with Mackinac Draft Trading Company to purchase more upland property behind the Seabiscuit building Wednesday, January 30. The council directed Mayor Margaret Doud to sign a purchase agreement to purchase the property for $650,000 following a 45-minute-long closed session.

The purchase agreement, which is available on the Town Crier Web site under the “Documents” tab, was signed January 18 by the Draft Company’s principals, Debra and Sandra Orr.

With the purchase of the riparian property between the Seabiscuit building, which is located at the head of the Coal Dock, the city council is nearly finished with its months-long negotiations. The last piece to be settled is the ongoing arbitration over the ownership of the Coal Dock, according to city attorney Tom Evashevski.
