Joseph Roehl


Joseph Roehl Joseph Roehl Veterinarian Joseph Frank Roehl, 68, a lifelong resident of Kimball Township, died in a farm accident Friday, January 25, 2019. He had worked the last five summers on Mackinac Island for Carriage Tours.

He was born August 22, 1950 in St. Clair to Harry C. and Maryellen Roehl and married Kathryn Simons on October 8, 1977 in the Neuman Center, Port Huron. Dr. Simons is also a veterinarian.

Dr. Roehl was graduated from Marysville High School in 1968 and the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1973. He established Wadhams Road Animal Clinic in January 1974 and worked there with his wife until his retirement in 1996. The highlight of his retirement, said his family, was spending summers as the veterinarian for Mackinac Island Carriage Tours.

He was featured in a story about his work on Mackinac Island in the August 25 edition of The Mackinac Island Town Crier.

He was a lifelong farmer and longtime member of St. Christopher Catholic Church where he served in music ministry. He was also active in the Marysville Rotary Club, Schubert Male Chorus, and Marysville Knights of Columbus Council 9526.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, Dr. Roehl is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Cameron J. Roehl and Kim DeLand; three brothers and their families, Charles and Evelyn Roehl, Harry and Ann) Roehl, and Tom and Sandra Roehl, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was Wednesday, January 30, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday, January 31, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Marysville Funeral Home. A Knights of Columbus Rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Visitation was at St. Christopher Catholic Church Friday, February 1, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m. The Reverend James Arwady officiated.

Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery in Marysville.

Memorials may be made to St. Christopher Catholic Church, the Schubert Male Chorus, or the Marysville Viking Regiment Band Boosters.
