The old Union Terminal Piers waiting room and ticket office is much friendlier and more comfortable with the removal of the ticket cages by Star Line this winter. New paint contributes to the brightness, and two heaters keep the room warm. The former business offices in the back will become a Star Line store selling company clothing and snacks. Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau will return to its front store behind the red storage lockers, and Bob and Mary Ann Gale’s Butterfly House and Insect World will be promoted in the former muffin shop (left, below). Old bicycles and photographs will complete the interior. Above, Adrienne Heeke (right) has been managing the office this winter. She was assisted in rejuvenating the waiting room by (from left) Dave Malow, Robert Ball, Denny Barrette, and Dan Aldrich. Just adding a new coat of paint shaved 50 years from the age of the old waiting room, Ms. Heeke said. 34p4.jpg
